Belt Pouch 3

 Greetings

Prior to sewing on the body of the pouch I had used a leatherwork tool to bevel the edges of the two panels and the flap. I had also used another tool to round them off further.

I now had to sew the body to the rear panel, which involved a lot of measuring and checking to make sure I started and finished at the right point. Measure twenty times sew once...

It went together correctly.

I punched holes in the strap and painted the edges of the thicker leather with diluted black acrylic.

The pouch has a slightly larger capacity then the old version.

and even stands up on its own...

All in all a successful project.

It will have its first outing next year.

Until next time

Belt Pouch 2

 Greetings

Having cut out the front and rear panels and a fitting for the buckle, I then cut out a strap.

I sewed the hanger onto the rear panel and the strap onto the flap.

I also sewed the buckle onto the front panel. I also adjusted the front top opening on the front panel

I then decided to use a thinner leather for the body of the pouch and cut out a new strip.

I also reviewed the decoration of the flap and, after due consideration, decided to only sew on the Papal badge.

I then sewed the strip to the front panel

You will note that I cut the strip longer than my initial measurements ( just in case).

Belt pouch 1

 Greetings

Many years ago I bought a replica metal belt pouch hanger and buckle at a trader's stall at Herstmonceux Medieval Festival.

My leatherworking skills were in their infancy and I made a belt pouch from quite thin black leather.

At first this worked alright and I added an enamelled Yorkist rose  to the flap. I later found a  Papal badge and added this above the rose.

As the years went by the thin leather began to stretch and sag. I added internal stiffening pieces, but (as you can see this still didn't work very well.

I decided to remake the whole thing and bought some thicker black leather at a re-enactor's market.

I took lots of measurements from the existing pouch and made a rough pattern from newspaper.

First I cut out the rear panel ,which included the bar attachment and front flap.

After getting some ideas from the leatherworker on the BBC programme ,The Repair Shop, Teddy had bought me some more leather working tools.

I used the shaver tool to thin down the leather where it had to go round the bar for the hanger.

\

Next I cut out the front flap and a strip of the same leather to join the two together and make the body of the pouch

Then I cut a strap with a slot for the buckle. I shaved the back of the slotted area and part of the rest of the strap to make the closure and sewing it to the front flap easier.

The cats are calling for their supper, so I will post more on this later.

Until next time

Handfasting 3

 Greetings

Due to me looking after my father and to the lockdowns for Covid, our cats have become used to at least one of us being around all the time.

We were both away for the best part of three days for the Handfasting and they were not impressed with us.

On the Tuesday after, Teddy had to go into the office ( he normally works from home most of the time).

I heard a strange noise from the Sewing room and, on investigating, found Bertie attempting to prevent any further absences ...

Until next time
