Sanctuary Rework Day 18

 Greetings

Here is how the painting looked at the end of day 17

I continue to work on the detail and the figures.

I have done more work to the black-haired angel's foot.

I also noticed that the blond angel's gaze was not consistent and have adjusted it so that the figures looks out of the painting.

The painting now looks like this.

Here's how he painting looked at the end of day 16

I have done more work to the water and sky.

I added Prussian Blue and Emerald glazes to the water and then worked over those glazes with white glaze detailing.

I also added more white glaze to the horizon of the sky and the mid-distance clouds.

The painting now looks like this

Cryptid Fossil 2

 Greetings

Here is a third Cryptid Fossil.

Once again, this is sculpted in clay.

This one is the head of a fire lizard.

I shall probably make some more of these, as I have some more ideas....

Sanctuary Rework Day 16

The painting is now at the stage when many of the changes are more subtle  and may be harder to spot.

This is how it looked at the end of day 15

I have added a green glaze to the water and done more work to the figures.

Here is a close-up of the figures

The painting now looks like this

Cryptid Fossil 1

 Greetings

Here is another cryptid fossil. This is sculpted out of clay.

This one is a cat sprite.

I chose to make this a Blue Lias fossil.

I used to go on holidays to my grandmother's house at Charmouth in Dorset. The cliffs there are very unstable as they are made of Blue Lias, which is prehistoric mud and has a tendency to turn partially back to mud if it gets too wet.

This leads to cliff falls and lots of fossils in the shingle.

I have a collection of fossil belamites and ammonites, as well as a few other fossils, which I found on the beach in my childhood ( This was in the 1970's-decades before it became forbidden to collect these).

The nature of Blue Lias also means that soft parts of creatures are sometimes  fossilized, or leave  impressions ( I have a fossil with fish scales and a couple of plant impressions).

I have reflected this with the wings and ears of this sprite.

Cryptid Fossil

 Greetings

I have posted before about the fimo figures I make.

These have included faries and sprites.

I had the idea to extend this concept

Here is an imp fossil

This piece was sculpted in clay.

This is how it looked before being painted.

I am quite pleased with how this came out and plan to make some more fossils.

Maybe a small dragon next time...

Until next time
